צפח

Abarim Publications' online Biblical Hebrew Dictionary

צפח

The root צפח (sph) doesn't occur as verb in the Bible but in cognate languages it means to be wide, broad or spread out. In Biblical Hebrew two derivatives of this root are extant:

  • The feminine noun צפחת (sappahat), which denotes a big jar or jug (1 Samuel 26:11-16, 1 Kings 17:12-16 and 19:6 only).
  • The feminine noun צפיחת (sepihit), which denotes a flat cake or wafer (Exodus 16:31 only).
