Cainan Cainan

For no apparent reason, Luke places Cainan as son of Arpachshad in front of Shelah. This anomaly is either another name-related mistake (the other one being the alternate lineage of Christ) or (and this view is unanimously favored by the Abarim Publications Editorial Team) Luke is causing these anomalies deliberately and they have merit. For a possible explanation of the Christ-lineage discrepancy, read our article on The Dual Genealogy of Christ.
Luke uses the same Greek spelling to write the name of Kenan, the son of Enosh, the son of Seth.

See Kenan for a look at the etymology and meaning of the name of this curious fellow.
