🔼The name Chelub in the Bible

There are two men with the name Chelub in the Bible:

  • A descendant of Judah (1 Chronicles 4:11). Some scholars claim that this Chelub is the same as Caleb, the son of Hezron. There is, however, very little evidence for this.
  • The father of Ezri, how was in charge of all the farmers during the reign of king David (1 Chronicles 27:26).

For a meaning of the name Chelub, NOBSE Study Bible Name List reads Basket, Bird's Cage. Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names assumes that baskets are woven together, but also refers to a similar Arabic that means just that, and translates the name Chelub with Binding Together. BDB Theological Dictionary does not interpret this name.
