Meaning and etymology of the name Joiakim




Joiakim Joiakim


There's only one man named Joiakim in the Bible, but his name is one of two contracted forms of the name Jehoiakim. The other one is Jokim.

Joiakim is the son of Jeshua the high priest during the time of the return from exile (Nehemiah 12:10, 26).

The name Joiakim consists of two parts:

1) The name Jah, Jah, which in turn is an abbreviated form of the name of the Lord YHWH, YHWH, or Yahweh.

Jehoiakim meaning

As shown in Mark 5:41, this verb also exists in Aramaic. Jesus uses it when He raises Jairus' daughter from the dead by saying, "talitha kum".
