Letusim Letusim

The Letusim are descendants of Dedan, son of Jokshan, son of Abraham with Keturah.

The name Letusim is the plural form of the verb latash (latash 1110), hammer, sharpen, forge, push. This verb is not very widely used, so it probably means something specific for a hand-working society. What that is we don't really know but the various contexts suggest that there is no single English equivalent of this verb.

In Gen 4:22 we read about Tubal Cain who is a hammerer of implements of bronze and iron. In 1 Sam 13:20 the Israelites go down to the Philistines, each to sharpen his plowshare, his mattock, and his hoe. The same usage occurs in Psalm 7:12, where God sharpens His sword and bends his bow against a man who does not repent. In Psalm 52:2 a mighty man's destructive tongue is compared to a sharpened razor. Job even complains that his enemy has sharpened his eyes at him (16:9).

The name Letusim means Sharp or Sharpened (for lack of a better word).
