Nebat Nebat

There's only one Nebat in the Bible, but we only know about him because he's the father of Jeroboam, who is called the son of Nebat (1 Ki 11:26). Nebat himself plays no role in Scriptures.

The name Nebat comes from the verb nabat (nabat 1282), to look, regard. According to TWOTOT this verb covers everything from a mere glance (1 Sam 17:42) to careful contemplation (Isa 5:12). A derivation is the noun mabbat (mabbat 1282a), expectation (Zech 9:5).

This name may be related to the name Nebaioth.
