מאה

מאה

The feminine noun מאה (me'a) means a hundred but it should be remembered that in Biblical times arithmetic accuracy hadn't been invented yet and was neither expressed nor expected.

Our word מאה (me'a) expresses an order of magnitude of roughly a hundred, or roughly ten sets of roughly ten (עשר, 'eser). Accurate numbers such as the ages of the antediluvian patriarchs may indeed express numerical accuracy but were equally probable endowed with symbolic meaning beyond numerical accuracy.

Over the centuries, many enthusiasts have tried to crack the numerical codes of the Bible but very few have unearthed anything beyond their own imagination, and we must consider this information lost until an obviously correct solution is found (and with this we mean a system that connects the numbers of the Bible entirely and consistently to observable reality).
