🔼The name Achor in the Bible

The name Achor belongs to a valley where Achan and his children are stoned to death (Joshua 7:24), because Achan had taken articles from the loot of Jericho, while this was specifically forbidden (Joshua 7:1). Achan was identified by means of lots, and went down into history as the Troubler of Israel (1 Chronicles 2:7).

Much later, the prophet Isaiah would write that the valley of Achor would be a resting place for herds (Isaiah 65:10) and Hosea predicts that when the Lord restores Israel, he will give her the valley of Achor as a door of hope (Hosea 2:15).
