There's only one man named Mahazioth in the Bible. He was one of the fourteen sons of Heman, the famous musician under David (1 Chronicles 25:4). Under the direction of his father, Mahazioth sang in the temple of YHWH along with his brothers. When additional duties had to be assigned, Mahazioth and twelve of his relatives caught the twenty-third lot (1 Chronicles 25:30).
🔼Etymology of the name Mahazioth
The name Mahazioth is the plural of the noun מחזה (mahazeh), meaning vision, from the verb חזה (haza), meaning to look or see:
The verb חזה (haza) means to see or behold. Noun חזה (hozeh) means seer or visionary. Nouns חזות (hazot), חזות (hazut), חזיון (hizzayon) and מחזה (mahazeh) mean vision, anything between the mere act of seeing to experiencing a prophetic apparition. The noun מחזה (meheza) literally describes a place or instrument of vision and is the word for window.
It may be that the verb חזה (haza) originated in the idea of being or looking forward, which would explain the noun חזה (hazeh), which describes the breast of an animal. It may also be that this noun derives from a second verb חזה (haza), to be in front.
For a meaning of the name Mahazioth, NOBSE Study Bible Name List, Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names and BDB Theological Dictionary agree: it means Visions.
