צמר

Abarim Publications' online Biblical Hebrew Dictionary

צמר

The unused and assumed root צמר (smr) yields the following derivatives:

  • The masculine noun צמר (semer), meaning wool (Deuteronomy 22:11, Isaiah 1:18).
  • The feminine noun צמרת (sammeret), meaning treetop (Ezekiel 17:3, 31:3). BDB Theological Dictionary suggests that this connection possibly stems from this particular kind of tree's wooly, feathery appearance.
