🔼The name Shephuphan in the Bible
The name Shephuphan is mentioned only once in the Bible. In 1 Chronicles 8:5 he is mentioned as one as the sons of Benjamin. It may be this Shephuphan (שפופן) is the same person as the Shephupham (שפופם) mentioned in Numbers 26:39, or even the Muppim and Huppim (מפים וחפים) mentioned in Genesis 46:21 combined, or the Shuppim and Huppim (שפים וחפם) mentioned in 1 Chronicles 7:12 combined. It's unclear.

The name Shephuphan is closely similar to, and probably derived from, the noun שפיפן (shepipon), which denotes a kind of snake, from the assumed root שפף (spp):
For a meaning of the name Shephuphan, Alfred Jones (Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names) suggests an obvious Serpent. BDB Theological Dictionary doesn't interpret our name but does list it under the root שפף. NOBSE Study Bible Name List doesn't treat this particular name.
