προσδοκαω

The verb προσδοκαω (prosdokao) means to expect, hope or look intently for. It consists of the common prefix προς (pros), which describes a motion toward, and the otherwise unused verb δοκαω (dokao), to observe sharply, watch intently.

This verb is used 16 times in the New Testament, see full concordance, and from it derives:

  • The noun προσδοκια (prosdokia), meaning a looking for, an expectation (Luke 21:26 and Acts 12:11 only).
