  • The father of a man named Eliehoenai, who led a group of 200 returnees from the Babylonian exile and traveled with Ezra (Ezra 8:4).

The name Zerahiah consists of two elements, the first being יה (Yah) = יהו (Yahu) = יו (Yu), which in turn are abbreviated forms of the Tetragrammaton יהוה, YHWH, or Yahweh.

The verb זרח (zarah) means to break out or arise, and may describe the breaking out of leprosy, to the rising of the sun, to an outburst of joy or glory.
