Nehemiah Nehemiah

There are three Nehemiah's mentioned in the Bible. One returned to Jerusalem with Zerubabel in the early wave (Ezr 2:2). Another Nehemiah, a son of Azbuk, worked along those of the second wave (Neh 3:16). Lastly, there is the famous Nehemiah, son of Hacaliah, and author of the book that carries his name (Neh 1:1).

The name Nehemiah comes from the root naham (naham 1344), meaning comfort. Please see the name Nahum for a look at that root.
The second part of the name Nehemiah is yah, the abbreviated form of YHWH, the Name of God (see YHWH).

Together the name Nehemiah means The Lord Is Comfort.
