Meaning and etymology of the name Hanoch
|

Hanoch
There are two Hanochs in the Bible. One is a son of Midian, son of Abraham with Keturah (Genesis 25:4). The other is a son of Reuben, son of Jacob (Genesis 46:9).
This name Hanoch is closely similar to that of Enoch. Both names come from (hanak) meaning dedicate, begin. See the name Enoch for a closer look at the meaning and compass of this word.
Since the names Enoch and Hanoch are so similar, Jones' Dictionary of Old Testament Proper Names doesn't even treat Hanoch as a separate name. NOBS Study Bible Name List reads Dedicated for both Enoch and Hanoch.
