Jeshurun Jeshurun

Jeshurun is a poetic nickname for Israel (Deut 33:16; Isa 44:2).

This name shows that once upon a time, before the Masoretic pronunciation aids, the letters shin and sin were once quite the same:
Israel-jeshurun

The name Jeshurun comes from yashar (yasar 930) meaning to be level, straight, upright. The name means Uprighter. Or perhaps, if we serve the marriage-metaphor: Erector!

Etymologically the name Jeshurun is related to Asshur. Another nickname for Israel is Zion.
NOBSE reads Upright One.
