🔼The name Ir-shemesh in the Bible
The name Ir-shemesh occurs only once in the Bible. It's the name of a Canaanite village that came to be situated in the territory allotted to the tribe of Dan (Joshua 19:41). Scholars commonly equate Ir-shemesh with one of the four cities named Beth-shemesh, but neither of these four are Danite.
